If you want to give kids a taste of scuba, PADI offers several courses just for the little ones.
Proud scuba diving parents probably can’t wait to introduce their children to the joy of the sport. While open water courses have a minimum age requirement (10 years for Junior Open Water Certification), kids as young as 5 can experience what the great blue has to offer.
Depending on their age and comfort level, there are several course offered by PADI that are tailored for kids:
SASY (Supplied Air Snorkeling for Youth)
This course lets kids experience the wonders of the ocean by snorkeling with scuba equipment. The gear is specially made to fit small frames and a special swim vest is filled with foam to make sure the child stays vertical and afloat while at rest.
Bubblemaker Scuba Course
For kids 8-9 years of age, the Bubblemaker Course will give them a first taste of diving. While your kids will be limited to pool sessions, this course will let them get familiar with scuba equipment and take their first breath of air underwater.
PADI Seal Team
If you think your son or daughter is old enough for a Junior Open Water Dive Certificate, this course might be a introduction to diving. While this dive class is filled with fun activities and adventures, they will also learn the basics of setting up the gear, skills and water safety.
Most of these courses are available at family vacation resorts that already offer scuba diving, but some dive shops may also teach them. For more information, visit the
PADI website.
